Jeff Kohnz’s bio
I was born and raised in Kansas City, MO. At an early age, I began drawing animals, mainly horses. Throughout my school years I took art classes and began exploring different mediums. I really took to acrylic painting in high school and have enjoyed it ever since. Mostly I paint with acrylics and sometimes sketch in pencil or color sticks. If I find something I really want to paint or draw, I’ll take a picture of it and lay it out on a canvas later.
In high school my favorite subject to paint was fantasy fiction. Since then I’ve moved on to things I can see. I enjoy nautical things, especially lighthouses. They represent a guiding light in storms, as the Lord is to his children. The ocean is a subject matter that really intrigues me. The colors and the constant movement are amazing. Other subject matters I enjoy include sunsets and the intricate licks of intense fire.
Lately my use of my artistic gift me has been on occasion during worship service at my church. Now that I have been given more free time to explore my creative side, I plan on painting and drawing a lot more frequently. I also have plans to explore other mediums of artwork, such as metal sculpting and stained glass.
As I grew older, I found that I was a very logical creature. I was a mechanic for almost 14 years, over half of which I worked at a GM dealership in Kansas City. During the last 2.5 years of that time, I went back to college at DeVry University and completed my Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Computer Information Systems. Two weeks after I graduated, I secured a position at a small local software development company that launched my career as a software engineer.
