This is the third painting in a series called “Circles”. Sometimes I get images of backgrounds, etc., while singing worship songs to myself. This was one of those times. I had a couple verses that I wanted to use in my next painting, but I didn’t have the painting figured out yet. The other night I was singing a song, and the reds, yellows, and gold just came to mind. The scripture, Romans 8:27-28, reads:
“And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (NIV translation)
While I originally didn’t plan on making it look like fire, it sort of came out that way. The Bible talks about how God’s presence is a consuming fire. Fire is used to describe many aspects of God, the Holy Spirit, and their presence within us. John the Baptist spoke of Christ, who would baptize with the Holy Spirit and with fire (Matthew 3:11). In Acts Chapter 2, the Holy Spirit appeared as “tongues of fire” resting on the believers, filling them up, and they “began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them”.
I decided to call this one “Consumed”. My prayers are that the Holy Spirit fills us up, overflowing and consuming us completely. May God bless you with the full plan and desire He has for your life.
