Reminiscing about past paintings… This is the first painting I did during a worship service. I had about 10 minutes to do it, and I was extremely nervous! Those who know me know that I’m a pretty introverted person and rather quiet most of the time. So, to get up and do this was really outside of the box for me. Funny how God has you do things that are beyond your normal routine to stretch your faith and make you stronger. The worship and creative arts pastor at that time asked me to do this for Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008. This is the one that started it all for me and got me back into painting again. Prior to that, I had done maybe 1-2 drawings and a couple unfinished paintings in a 13 year period. I thank God for opening a new part of my life through that guy, who is a close friend to me now.
For me, this painting represents not only the start of God using my artistic talent in worship, but also an almost prophetic view of my life a year later. I didn’t think about this until after I met my wife, Robin, and how the man on the left looks a lot like me from behind (back when I had hair lol), and the woman on the right looks a lot like her from behind. During that time, I was still single from a divorce in 2003 and had dated a few people that just didn’t work out. I think God was showing me something of the future, where my future wife and I would be worshiping Him, side by side. He has truly blessed me with a woman who is beyond my biggest dreams. Funny how that works sometimes…
I call this one King of Glory, aptly titled at the bottom of the painting itself. It’s approximately 6ft x 8ft on a plywood panel.
